IT 강국 자부심을 끌어내린 애플

2009년 11월, 애플의 아이폰이 국내에 출시되고 불과 100일 남짓 밖에 되지 않았습니다. 하지만 아이폰은 하드웨어 사양이 더 좋은 삼성의 옴니아2 사용자들이 부러운 눈으로 쳐다볼 정도로 국내 스마트폰 시장을 휩쓸어 버렸습니다. 지난 1월 삼성전자, LG 전자, KT 등 통신사 및 휴대폰 제조업체들이 너도나도 스마트폰 시장 집중을 선언한 것도 아이폰의 열풍이 얼마나 충격적인지 보여 주고 있습니다.

한국 IT업계와 제도권, 정부는 지금까지 하드웨어와 통신 분야에 국한된, 소위 ‘돈 되는 사업’에만 집중했고, 소프트웨어 분야에 대한 처우와 지원은 외면하였습니다. 이러한 환경에서 소프트웨어 개발자들은 30대 중반만 되면 관리직으로 옮겨 가거나 국외로 눈길을 돌려야 하는 실정이었습니다.

2월 18일 MBC ‘후 플러스’에서는 ‘애플의 공습’이란 제목으로 한국을 강타한 ‘아이폰’과 한국 IT의 현주소에 대해서 강도높게 비평했습니다. 이 프로그램에서는 애플이 이끈 모바일 혁명의 잠재적 원천은 바로 애플리케이션이라는 것입니다.

어플개발업체 '인투모스'의 김용민 대표는 국내업체와 애플의 개발자에 대한 생각의 차이에 대해 이렇게 말하였다. "제가 3~4년 전에 이런 서비스(어플)를 만들고 싶었다면 제일 먼저 해야 할 일은 서비스를 만드는 게 아니라 제조사나 유통사를 찾아가는 일이었겠죠.  (그러면 그 기업은) 내가 너한테 환경을 조성해주고 비용을 주니까 네가 나한테 잘 만들어 줘야지라고 말합니다. 애플은 갑과 을, 공급자와 생산자로 본 게 아니라 (개발자도) 하나의 소비자로 접근을 했어요. 제가 몇 번 (어플 등록) 시도를 하니까 애플 본사에서 전화가 왔더라구요. 이런 부분이 강화됐으면 좋겠고 이런 부분은 빠졌으면 좋겠다. 아이폰도 깔리지 않은 나라에서 소프트웨어를 올렸는데 애플 본사에서 전화가 올 만큼 그렇게 신경을 많이 쓴다는 거죠."

이와 같이 애플의 애플리케이션 장터인 ‘앱스토어’는 소프트웨어 개발자에게 마음껏 창의력을 발휘할 수 있는 환경을 제공하고 있습니다. 개발자까지 고객으로 간주하는 애플의 정책이 제대로 적중한 것입니다.

반면에 삼성전자는 어플리케이션 개발자에게 “6개월간 삼성 외 타사 핸드폰 대상으로 같은 어플을 제공하지 않기로 결정 필요”라는 문구가 포함된 어플리케이션 개발 제안서와 1억원 상당의 금액을 제시하였습니다. 한 마디로 돈으로 개발자를 사서 삼성 독점으로 얽어 매겠다는 의도입니다.

‘후 플러스’에서 인터뷰한 유민영씨는 “생태계는 스스로 만들어가는 거예요. 거기 구성원들이 만들어 가는 거거든요. 그런데 지금 대기업들이 돈을 풀어서 아니면 개발자들을 모아서 이거는 환경을 만들려고 하는 거에요, 어떻게 보면 인간이 생태계를 조작하는 것과 마찬가지죠”라고 말하면서 한국 IT업계와 제도권, 정부의 대처 방식을 꼬집었습니다.

국내 KT가 주도하고 SK 텔레콤, 미국 버라이존와이러리스 등의 세계적 통신업체들이 참여한 GSMA(글로벌이동통신사업자연합)의 WAC(개방형 모바일 콘텐츠 거래장터(Wholesale App Community), 소위 ‘수퍼 앱스토어’는 “WAC 참여 사업자의 고객이 세계 이동통신 가입자의 3분의 2에 해당하는 30억명에 이르러 거대 시장의 창출과 함께 소비자와 개발자에게 혜택이 돌아갈 것”이라고 성공을 장담했습니다. 그렇지만 각 이동통신업체들의 기존 투자에 대한 보상 문제, 플랫폼의 차이를 해소할 표준화 문제, 운영 주도권 문제 등 많은 문제점을 안고 있습니다.

국내이동통신업체를 포함한 제도권은 이런 여러가지 문제점보다 더 중요한 한 가지 사실을 직시해야 합니다.

“소프트웨어 개발자는 중요한 인적자원이며 또 하나의 고객입니다.  단순한 하청업자로 생각하는 의식의 전환이 우선되어야 합니다.”

플래시플레이어 HTML5에 밀릴 것인가?

애니메이션의 간단한 제작, 사운드와 결합된 역동적인 홈페이지 등을 가능하게 하여 선풍적인 인기를 모으고 있는 플래시(Flash)가 Adobe의 고객을 생각하지 않는 오만함으로 인해 서서히 몰락될 위기에 봉착했습니다.

인터넷 PC라면 대부분 Adobe의 플래시 플레이어가 설치되어 있습니다. 뿐만 아니라 이젠 플래시가 없으면 곤란한 지경에 이르는 사이트들도 많습니다. 웹디자인 분야에서 프로그램 분야에 이르기 까지 깊숙히 파고 들었기 때문입니다. 이러한 분위기가 Adobe를 기고만장하게 만든 것입니다.

플래시 플레이어 10 버젼의 경우, Adobe는 일말의 공지나 문서도 제공하지 않은 채 전격 배포하였습니다. 플래시 플레이어 10의 경우 보안샌드박스 변경으로 플래시를 활용한 파일업로더와 플래시를 통한 클립보드 복사가 기존의 방식으로는 동작하지 않았습니다.

이로 인해서 사이트개발자는 물론이고 네티즌까지도 어려움을 겪을 수 밖에 없었습니다. Adobe는 신버젼 발표를 할 때 발생할 수 있는 문제점들을 고려하지 않고 매번 보안정책을 바꿔서 웹서비스 개발자들이 그에 따른 대규모 수정을 할 수 밖에 없도록 만들고 있습니다.

마치 Adobe 가 "내가 표준이나 너희들은 나를 따라와야 한다"고 외치고 있는 듯 합니다.

검색엔진에서 'flash 문제점'으로 검색해보면 지식검색, 카페, 블로그 등의 글들에서 Adobe에 대한 원성을 누구나 느낄 수 있을 정도입니다.

1월 27일 애플 이벤트(Apple Event)에서 스티븐 잡스는 신제품 아이패드(iPad)가 플래시를 지원하지 않는다고 공언하였습니다.  애플은 플래시를 대신할 새로운 포맷으로 HTML5을 지지하고 있습니다.

구글은 이미 검색서비스 첫화면에 HTML5를 도입했으며 유튜브, 비메오닷컴, 플리커닷컴도 HTML5로의 변환작업이 진행 중인 것으로 알려졌습니다.

HTML5는 HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0, DOM Level 2 HTML에 대한 차기 표준 제안이며, 어도비 플래시나 마이크로소프트의 실버라이트, 썬의 자바FX와 같은 플러그인 기반의 인터넷 어플리케이션에 대한 필요를 줄이는데 목적을 두고 있습니다.
2004년 6월 Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group(WHATWG)에서 웹 어플리케이션 1.0이라는 이름으로 세부 명세 작업을 시작하였고 2012년 5월 정식권고안이 발표될 예정입니다.

HTML5는 HTML4와 달리 <header>, <nav>, <article>,<section>,<aside>, <footer> 등과 같은 구조적인 태그로 구역을 나누는 블록요소인 div 태그를 대신합니다.
그리고 플러그인 없이 멀티미디어를 재생할 수 있는 API 태그 <audio>, <video>, <canvas> 등을 제공합니다.

이미 많은 개발자들이 웹페이지를 HTML5로 바꾸는 작업을 진행하고 있습니다.

아이폰 : 만보기 이상의 만보기 - YOP

체계적인 운동관리가 필요한 사람들에게 꼭 필요한 얘플리케이션이 무료로 제공되고 있습니다. 만보기라고 단순히 표현하기에는 더 많은 기능을 가지고 있네요. 개인적으로 이 애플리케이션이 마음에 드는 부분은 다음과 같습니다.
  • 내가 걸은 경로를 지도상에서 보여주는 것
  • 소모된 칼로리 그래프를 볼 수 있다.
  • 센서가 비교적 정확하다.
  • 배터리 소모량을 줄이기 위하여 주머니에 넣었을 때 조도를 인식해 아이폰을 절전모드로 전환시켜준다.

처음 애플리케이션을 실행하면 우선 나의 계정을 생성해야 합니다. 계정 생성은 이름, 키, 몸무게를 입력하면 완료!!!

YOP에서는 4가지 모드가 제공됩니다.
  • 기본모드: 특별한 지정없이 일상생활의 활동에서 모두 체크하는 모드
  • 시간모드: 시간을 정해두고 그 시간까지 도달하는 것을 목표로 두고 운동하는 모드
  • 걸음모드: 지정한 걸음걸이를 목표로 하는 모드
  • 칼로리 모드: 지정한 칼로리 도달이 목표인 모드

기본 모드 입니다. YOP의 모든 모드에서는 그림과 같이 음악을 들으면서 또는 음악없이 운동을 할 수 있습니다.

 '음악을 들으며' - '음악을 선택해서 재생' 모드 입니다. 아이폰에 저장된 음악 목록에서 선택하면 되겠죠.

 여기에서 OK를 터치하면 센서가 활성화되어 걸음수와 칼로리수를 집계하기 시작합니다.

걷는 도중에 오른 쪽 위의 'Save map' 버튼을 터치하면 현재 위치가 지도에 표시됩니다.
지도 상의 운동경로를 보고자 할 경우 처음 시작 위치에서 'Save map' 버튼을 터치하여 위치 지정을 하고
움직여야 기록이 됩니다.

음악을 듣는 상태에서 아이폰의 홈버튼(아이폰 아랫쪽 중앙의 둥근 버튼)을 더블클릭하면 음악을 컨트롤 할 수 있습니다.

'시간모드', '걸음모드', '칼로리모드'에서 목표치를 지정하는 화면입니다.

 메인메뉴의 'Sensoe State'를 통해 센서의 감도를 지정할 수 있습니다. 위로 설정할수록 민감하게 반응합니다.

 월별, 또는 일별로 집계가 가능하네요. 제가 많이 사용한 상태가 아니라서 자세한 그래프 모양을 보여드리진 못합니다.

아이폰이 이젠 피부미용까지

아이폰 애플리케이션의 한계는 어디까지일까요?  나도 처음에는 필요한 몇 개만 설치해서 써야지 했지만
호기심이 발동하여 벌써 100개이상 설치해두고 있습니다. '정말 될까?'하고 의구심과 호기심을 동시에 불러일으키는
애플리케이션이 많습니다.

이번에는 여드름 제거,  주름 펴기 등의 기능을 하는 애플리케이션이 등장했다네요.
피부가 전문의가 임상실험을 통해 개발했다고 주장한답니다. 이게 효과가 있다면 아이폰이 의료보조기구로도 활용이 된다는 것을 입증하는 셈입니다. 앞으로 스마트폰이 더 발전할 건 자명한 사실이고 애플리케이션의 개발 또는 어디까지 갈지 짐작이 어려울 정도입니다.

이 애플리케이션은 액정션 통해 방출되는 420㎚(나노미터·10억 분의 1m)의 푸른 빛과 550㎚의 붉은 빛이 피부를 관리해준다고 합니다. 얼굴을 액정에 가까이 대기만 하면 되는 것으로 통화를 하면서 자연스럽게 피부관리를 받을 수 있다는 주장입니다.

현재 이 애플리케이션은 앱스토어에서 1.99달러에 판매되고 있습니다.

아이폰 은행보안카드 관리 애플리케이션 - iSCard

우리 집에서는 은행보안카드를 아내가 가지고 있습니다. 은행관련 일은 아내가 도맡아 해주고 있기 때문이죠.  회사에 출근해서 급하게 송금할 일이 있어서 집으로 연락했을 때 아내가 외출 중이면 전화로 보안카드 번호를 받기도 쉽지 않습니다. 이럴 때는 보안카드가 하나 더 있었으면 하죠.

아이폰 무료 앱 중 iSCard는 은행보안카드 정보를 입력해둘 수 있는 애플리케이션입니다.
별이 4개네요^^

비밀번호를 입력해야 내부 정보를 볼 수 있습니다. 당연한 기능이죠. (초기 비밀번호는 0000)
10번이상 비밀번호를 잘못 입력하면 입력한 보안카드 정보가 자동 삭제 됩니다.

환경설정부터 볼까요. 모두 한글이라 알아보기 쉽습니다. 비밀번호를 새롭게 바꿀 수 있네요.^^

은행보안카드를 보고 카드의 형식이 몇자리 수 몇 개인지, 코드가 가로방향으로 나열되었는지 세로방향으로 나열되었는지 일련번호가 뭔지 잘 보시고 항목에 맞게 입력하세요. (일련번호는 대개 보안카드 코드표 오른쪽 윗 부분에 있습니다.)

두 어플 모두 상품의 바코드를 아이폰에 내장된 카메라로 읽어 실시간 가격비교를 할 수 있게 해주는 어플입니다.
2010년 2월 2일 현재 앱스토어 고객평가에서 Eggmon이 별 3개 반, QrooQroo가 별 3개로 박빙의 경쟁을 하고
있습니다. 개인적으로는 디자인 부분에서 QrooQroo의 손을 들어주고 싶지만, 이 어플을 자주 사용하는 것은 아니므로 냉정한 평가를 내리기는 어렵네요. 이 두개의 어플에 대한 설명을 해보겠습니다. 선택은 여러분들의 자유겠죠.^^

우리는 한국 App Store에 대한 계정만 가졌기 때문에 미국이나 다른 나라 앱스토어에서 무료제공하는 앱을 다운로드 받을 권한이 없습니다.  다른 나라의 아이폰앱을 다운  받기 위해서는 다른 나라의 앱스토어에 계정을 별도로 등록해야 합니다.  이 때 무료 제공하는 앱만 다운받을 것이므로 굳이 신용카드 정보를 가질 필요는 없습니다.

진행 과정이 길기 때문에 복잡하게 여겨지지만 실제로 해보면 크게 어렵지 않습니다.
우리는 이미 한국계정을 한번씩 다 받아 본 적이 있으니까 모두 계정받기에는 경험자이니까요.^^

1). iTunes App Store에서 화면을 아래 쪽까지 스크롤하면 태극기가 표시된 아이콘이 있습니다.
     이 아이콘을 클릭!!!

2). 원하는 나라 (여기에서는 미국을 선택)를 선택합니다.

3). 미국 아이폰 App Store 화면이 로딩되면 오른쪽 아래의 'Free Apps' (무료 앱) 중 하나를 클릭!!
     이미 특정 아이폰앱을 알고 있을 경우는 오른쪽 위의 검색창을 이용해도 된다.

4). 무료 아이폰앱의 Thumbnail 아래의 Free App 버튼을 누르면 계정로그인을 요구하는 창이 뜹니다.
      여기에서 새로운 계정 생성 클릭

5). 다음의 진행에 따라 계정을 만드세요.

※ 미국의 경우, yahoo.com 에서 아무 회사의 주소나 퍼와서 사용하면 됩니다. 어차피 무료 아이폰앱만 다운받는
   용도로 쓸 것이니까 문제가 될 소지는 크지 않으리라 봅니다.

6). 이제 이메일 인증 단계만 남았네요^^
      단계가 진행되는 중 방금 등록한 아이디와 비밀번호를 한번 묻습니다.
      계정이 만들어지면 계정 만들기에서 아이디로 사용한 이메일로 인증을 위한 메일이 날아옵니다.
      이메일 내용에서 제가 빨간 줄로 표시한 부분을 클릭하시면 인증 완료.

7). 무료 아이폰앱을 다운받은 후 아이폰을 iTunes와 동기화하면 바로 나의 아이폰에 해당 앱이 설치되지만,
      그 전에 아이폰에서도 계정을 바꾸어 주어야 합니다.
      아이폰에서 App Store로 갑니다.
      App Store의 카테고리 (Category) 탭 아래에 현재 설정된 계정이 나타납니다.

8). 계정-버튼을 눌러서 현재의 계정을 로그아웃 합니다.

9). 로그인-버튼을 누르고 새롭게 생성된 계정과 국가를 선택하면 완료!!!
     이제 iTunes에서 동기화하면 방금 받은 무료 아이폰앱이 아이폰에 설치됩니다.

아이폰 OS 4.0 이미 개발자에겐 업그레이드

iPhone OS 4.0은 현재 개발자에게는 배포가 된 상태라고 합니다.

개발자의 입에서 나온 iPhone OS 4.0의 주요 포인트는 다음과 같습니다.

1. 멀티태스킹이 된다. (단 3개의 프로그램까지 안정적)
2. 제스처(gesture) 기능 ~ 잠금화면일 때 제스처를 하면 여러 기능들이 수행된다.
3. 사파리 플래쉬(Falsh) 작동 ~ 사파리에서 flash가 돌아갑니다. 단, 플래시 게임류는 실행되지 않음
4. 검색엔진은 '빙'이 아니라 '구글' 그대로 입니다.

이상 많은 부분이 개선되었다고 합니다.

엄청나게 기대를 모았던 Apple Event가 한국시간 1월 28일 새벽 3시부터 4시 40분까지 이어졌습니다.
화려하고 다양한 색상의 행사장 내부 세팅과 테이블과 의자 하나를 둔 스테이지의 세팅도 독특했습니다.
스티븐 잡스는 "2010년을 아주 혁신적인 제품을 소개하면서 시작하고 싶다"라고 말문을 열면서 아이팟과 아이폰에 대한 소개를 하였습니다.  "2001년부터 아이팟이 2억 5천만대 팔렸고, 앱스토어에서는 30억 다운로드가 이루어 졌다"고 하면서 현재 애플이 세계에서 가장 큰 모바일 제품회사라고 말했습니다.

새로운 제품의 이름은 "iPad"!!
휴대폰과 랩탑을 이을 세번째 카테고리라고 설명하면서 아이폰과 유사한 인터페이스의 아이패드 이미지가 공개되었습니다.

이때 네이버의 실시간 검색순위는 (1월 28일 새벽 3시 14분)

Apple Event에 대한 네티즌들의 관심이 어느 정도인지 알 수 있다.

이어서 iPad의 기술사양과 기능에 대한 설명이 있었습니다. 이때 까지는 "휴대성이 나쁜 아이폰"이라는 느낌이 들 정도로 다분히 실망스러웠습니다.

하지만 넷북을 대신할 수 있는 iBookstore, iWorks의 활용 그리고 결정적인 가격으로 분위기는 급상승!!!
트위터들도 이 순간부터는 "사겠다"는 분위기가 되고 있었습니다.
개인적으로 기대하던 아이폰 OS 4.0에 대한 얘기는 없었습니다.

애플이벤트에서 밝혀진  iPad의 기능을 정리해 봅니다.

  • OS: iPhone OS 기반
  • 9.7inch IPS display, 0.5inch 두께, 1.5파운드 무게, 1GHz Apple A4 chip, 16~64GB Flash storage,
    용량 16-64GB, 가속도센서, 나침반,스피커,마이크,30핀 커넥터, 802.11n, 블루투스 2.1+EDR, 배터리 사용시간 10시간(대기시간 한달 이상)
  • 모든 아이폰의 앱을 실행 가능
  • iTunes 스토어 내장, 구글지도, 유튜브, 유튜브 HD 가능
  • 플래쉬(Flash)는 지원하지 않으며, 다른 맥(매킨토시)를 가지고 있을 경우 iPhoto와 연동 가능
  • OpenGLS 를 지원하여 부드러운 게임 작동
  • Game Loft사의 FPS Nova 게임 시연, EA에서 레이싱 게임 시연
  • New York Times를 시연
  • iPhone SDK를 iPad를 지원하게끔 수정하였고 이를 오늘 공개
  • iBooks Store: 책의 대부분 4.99$로 책정
  • iPad용 iWorks (age 9.99$, 키노트 9.99$, 넘버스 9.99$)
  • 통신사는 AT&T이며, AT&T의 Wifi 핫스팟도 무료 이용 가능
  • iPad는 USB모뎀 형식으로 Wi-Fi + 3G지원
  • 미국 AT&T기준 무제한 Data에 29.99$, 250MB 14.99$, 약정없고 언제든 해약이 가능
  • 6월에 국제적으로 협상, GSM Mcrio SIM 사용
